BIO

Crab is a New York City band blending gritty post-punk energy with art-rock edge. Formed in 2023 by longtime collaborators Chris Aniftos, Captain Tunney, and Paul Aronson, their sound fuses jagged guitars, hypnotic rhythms, and raw, emotionally charged vocals—equal parts chaos and control.

Joined by Chuck Hughes on bass David Hopp on drums and Kasey Johnson on Vocals/Synth, their self-titled debut (2023) and follow-up EP ApeApeApeApeApe (2025) capture the band’s mix of energy and haunting vulnerability.

Known for intense, unpredictable live shows, Crab captures the restless pulse of NYC’s underground scene with music that’s confrontational, magnetic, and deeply human.

Hair / Zephr is the third and final single out of Crab’s collaboration with Stephen Kurpis of Vitruvian Sound. Implementing horn textures from Luke Gallagher (Oboe/English Horn) and Caroline Knight (Flute), our aim was to show the more sentimental and lush side of our songwriting and style with this release

Hair is a call back to the likes of Sebadoh and Broken Social Scene, a straight forward in your face indie rock track highlighting the emotional strife of a difficult bump in a relationship. We retain our experimental approach to composition, keeping things off-beat while presenting our most simple and straight-forward track yet.

Zephr serves as a compliment to the strife and indecision Hair lays out, a meditative and introspective instrumental.

Recorded at Vitruvian Sound in Ridgewood NY.

Engineered & Mixed by Stephen Kurpis at Vitruvian Sound NYC
